Disqualification or Postponements

Requesting a Disqualification, Exemption, Excuse, or Postponement

If you are requesting a disqualification, exemption, excuse, or postponement of your jury service, you must complete and return the Juror Information Form to the Jury Commissioner within five (5) days of receiving your summons. Your signature is required.

Short-term and long-term postponements can be requested using the Court's online services.

Employers are not required by law to pay their employees regular salary when on jury duty. It is advisable to check with your employer as to your company's policy.

Need to Reschedule?

If you are unable to serve on your scheduled date, you may request one postponement on your jury service.

  • Select a new service week within the next 90 days.
  • Enter your requested week in the postponement section of the Juror Information Form and return it to the court,

A student may request a postponement to a school break or another date when they do not have classes.

Short-term and long-term postponements may also be requested through the Court's online services.

Important Information

Please note:

  • Jury Services cannot excuse you from your jury service solely because your employer does not pay you while you serve. If appropriate, the judge may consider this circumstance.
  • Financial hardship to your employer or being the sole proprietor of a business does not automatically excuse you from jury service. However, you may request a postponement to a more convenient time. 

Employer Compensation

 California law does not require employers to pay employees their regular wages while serving on jury duty. We encourage you to check with your employer regarding your company's jury duty pay policy.
